MisQuotes
One way to practice vocabulary and writing is to get students to play around with words. MisQuotes is my version of Mad Libs where I write a famous quote on the board (minus a few words) and then my students need to fill in the blanks. The goal of this is not to attempt to read the mind of the author of the original quote, but for students to find something from their own experience that would work in the sentence. Below are some of my favorite examples.
Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success, and love; it will all come back to you in abundance. (Steve Maraboli)
- Plant seeds of good; it will come back to you in return. (Aly)
- Plant seeds of childhood; it will come back to you in memories. (Luciano)
- Plant seeds of fire; it will come back to you in flames. (Davi-Ann)
- Plant seeds of evil; it will come back to you in karma. (Jareth)
- Plant seeds of love; it will come back to you in the future. (Carmen)
I think togetherness is a very important ingredient to family life. (Barbara Bush)
